Web Stuff

I guess I've been into the Internet long before we had the dot com bubble and the World Wide Wait. But the rise of the Web gave opportunities to run "Cybercafes" which I did on a regular basis - not long-term businesses, but short-term projects which were a mix of community ventures and advertising campaigns for our university degrees.

Alongside of that, I got into the usual web stuff teaching HTML (the original stuff, not trendy, modern HTML4...), and Javascript when it came along. When CSS first came out, I remember being somewhat dismissive of it as being yet another fad, like the dreadful frames that were all the rage at one time. How times change - I now regard CSS3 as critical for good web construction!

I continue to teach web development on a regular basis to our degree students (the current course is called "Application Scripting"). In order to support the course, I've produced a series of YouTube videos which are publicly available. In fact I've set up my Raspberry Pi as a web server at home, containing a little website that uses the example that I develop through my series of lectures to the students. It explains how to set up a Raspberry Pi as a webserver and then develop a little website on it using the principles described in my YouTube videos.

Actually, this website (argles.org/david) also uses the same basic website template, although it's somewhat extended to use CSS3 drop-down menus and the like.
