Family

You might be expecting this page to be about my family. Well, I suppose it is really, but not just about my lovely wife and delightful five children. It's really about the Argles family history - genealogy in other words. Not surprisingly, a name like "Argles" means that in many ways it's an easy family history to research, although rarity has its own disadvantages.

We've known for a long time that there's been a coat of arms in the posession of the oldest son of the oldest son. I don't know its origin, but it's old and painted on deerskin. Back in the latter part of the twentieth century, my father did a fair bit of research on the family history, and then found that Charles Marsham Argles had done rather more. The two of them got together and I inherited a huge file of paperwork. I've made a start at putting it all into a database which is availale on this website on argles.org. But it's very much a work in progress.

There are not that many Argles out there, although we seem to be growing in number as the years go by! So far, every Argles we know about is related via one Thomas Argles who was born in 1670.
